This state program provides grants to eligible companies for training employees that meet certain criteria. The program is broken down into two tracks: Basic Skills Training and Information Technology Training.

Basic Skills Training is designed to fund the teaching of a variety of fundamental skills needed by frontline employees or first-level supervisors to be successful in manufacturing or technology based businesses. Employers may apply for funding for any number of eligible employees up to $450 per employee and $100,000 per fiscal year (July 1 to June 30). On-the job, sales, Adult Literacy Service providers, and orientation training do not qualify for the program. Qualified training includes: communications and teamwork; applied mathematics and measurement; workplace safety and health; problem solving; quality assurance; business operations; computers; product and process control; workplace behavior skills; and manufacturing fundamentals.

Information Technology Training is designed to fund the teaching of a variety of high-tech skills needed by frontline workers, first-level supervisors, technical workers or information technology professionals to be successful in the workplace. Employers may apply for funding for any number of eligible employees up to $700 per employee and $50,000 per fiscal year (July I to June 30). Some training elements offered through the program include: applied manufacturing technology-CAD, CAM, CNC, PLC, e-business; technology support; data base development; software engineering; computer programming; network administration; system analysis; information security; management information systems; and web site design and development.

Employers must be based in Pennsylvania or have a significant presence in the state. Employees must be residents of Pennsylvania and earn at least 150% of the current minimum wage, excluding benefits.

Companies select the training provider. Company in-house training is permitted.
